Permission E-mail to Universal Island Records

To whom it may concern;

We are students who are studying A level media at Gordano School in Portishead near Bristol. As part of our A2 media coursework our task is to create a music video using an existing song.
We would like to use the song 'Down With The Trumpets' by Rizzle Kicks. We were wondering if you would grant us permission to use this song in our video as we would like to upload our final version of our music video onto YouTube.
We would appreciate this very much if you were to grant us permission.

Yours Sincerely,
Jihad Khan and Mark Read

Practice Alley Shot Conclusions

We shot a location of G walking through an alley as a rough idea of how we where going to do the shot. From the final shot we will make sure that the distance between G and the camera is larger because G was too close. This is also because if we use the fisheye effect on the video it would not have worked because G was too close to the shot.

Todorov Theory

Todorov believed there are 5 main parts to a movie.

1. Equilibrium - A period of calm, balance or equal elements.
2. Disequilibrium - An event occurring that disrupts this previously established balance.
3. Acknowledgement - Characters acknowledge that the equilibrium has been disrupted.
4. Solving - Characters attempt to fix this disruption.

5. New Equilibrium - The disruption is solved and the story returns to the previous or new period of stability.

Rizzle Kicks - Miss Cigarette

This shot shows an interesting effect used in the music video for Miss Cigarette by Rizzle Kicks. They use an interesting effect called a fisheye lens. This effect gives the video a fresh interesting look.
The shot also emphasises the main artist in the middle so that the prime subject is larger.

Colour Correction Research

I chose a natural skin tone on the right using the Adobe Kuler website. This then produces the colours that will complement the chosen colour. This allows me to know what colours should be used on Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Colorista for things such as the shadows. The colours that are shown are all close to a teal colour as this colour complements a natural skin tone. Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Colorista are plug-ins that can be used on Adobe After Effects to change a video’s colour using a variety of features. This in turn changes the overall feel of the video and gives it a movie like quality. A range of different combinations of colour cane be used to create the style and feel that you want your video to have.

This shows how video can be altered by using Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Colorista. The overall picture feels different and has been given a near movie like quality. The picture is also clearer with shadows being darker.

This shows some of the features that can be used in Magic Bullet Looks and Magic Bullet Colorista. Lots of different features can be added to the video as well as presets that can be useful. The amount of features range from simply adding contrast to adding whole new light to your video.

Adobe After Effects Wiggle Effect

www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDcbNWXwdts

This is the video tutorial I watched for the effect on Adobe After Effects called Wiggle. This effect moves the video slightly by changing its position and rotation at random times in the video. I imported the Rizzle Kicks Intro into the Adobe After Effects Timeline. I then highlighted the video and pressed 'Ctrl' and 'P' this brought up the position changer on the video. I then typed in 'wiggle(1,1)'. The wiggle command makes the video's position randomly change throughout the video, the '1,1' is the preset for how many times the video moves ( the higher the number the more the video moves). I then highlighted the video and pressed 'Ctrl' and 'R' this brought up the rotation changer on the video. I then typed in 'wiggle(1,1)'. The wiggle command makes the video's position randomly change throughout the video, the '1,1' is the preset for how many times the video rotates ( the higher the number the more the video moves). I then highlighted the video and dragged the video slightly wider and longer so that no black lines would show around the video whilst it was slowly rotating and moving. This gave the video an interesting effect as if it was a slightly shaky camera and I think it suits the video and looks good.

Film Burn Effect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DT_0oi-P8ow
This is the video tutorial I watched for the effect on Adobe After Effects called Film Burn.
I created this Film Burn Effect at the beginning and end of the clip. I felt this gave the clip and interesting effect. First I downloaded the Film Burn Clip from the download link on the youtube video in the video's description. I then added the Film Burn Clip to the Adobe After Effects Timeline. I then also added my Rizzle Kicks Intro to the timeline. I copied and pasted the clip so that it was at the beginning and end of the clip. I then set a keyframe on the first Film Burn Clip when the Rizzle Kicks Intro begins. I set this keyframe to be at 100% opacity. I then whent a second into the Rizzle Kicks Intro and set another keyframe on the Film Burn Clip to have 0% opacity. This made the Film Burn slowly fade into the Rizzle Kicks Intro giving it an interesting effect.
I then went to the last Film Burn Clip and whent to when the Rizzle Kicks Intro has a second left and set a keyframe on the Film Burn Clip to have 0% opacity. I then whent to the end of the Rizzle Kicks Intro and set another keyframe to have 100% opacity. This created the same effect as the first except reversed with the Rizzle Kicks Intro slowly fading into the Film Burn Clip.

CC Particle Effect

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yGK6gFYH2k
This is the video tutorial I watched for the plugin on Adobe After Effects called CC Particle World.
I used this effect in my Rizzle Kicks Intro. I used orange particles that where slowly rising upwards. This gave the video an interesting effect. This was achieved by creating a 10 second video, I then added the CC Particle World effect, this created particles. I then changed these particles from line to sphere. I then changed the height, width and radius of the particles so that they where more spaced apart. I then changed the colour of the particles. I made there birth colour orange and there death colour red. This created an interesting effect in colour change. I felt using these colours suited the videos overall colour scheme. I then set the gravity to -1 so that the particles would slowly rise. I then rendered the 10 second clip out on a white background.
I then added this rendered video to the timeline in Adobe After Effects alongside my video of the Rizzle Kicks Intro at the same time in the timeline. I then right clicked on the Particle video and went to Blending Options, I then clicked Multiply. This transfered the orange particles onto the Rizzle Kicks Intro without the white background to create the effect.

Questionaire Results Analysis

The people answering our questionnaire varied in age ranging from ages 15 (youngest) to 43 (oldest). This allows us to collect different opinions from people with different ages rather than friends or people the same age us. The younger people seem to pretty much have the same opinion as us but the older people however, have opinions that contrast to the younger people's. This is a good thing because we want our video to appeal to the older people as well.

The majority of the people who answered our questionnaire were females and a fair amount of males did answer as well. Others may think that it is not fair because more females answered but we thought it was reasonable.

Unsurprisingly, most of the male clients looked for women in a music video and most of those male clients were hip hop/RnB fans. Others however looked for find the artist and a storyline which are very obvious. In our video we would definitely include the artist(myself) and a small storyline.

When we asked how they would like to see different conventions in a hip-hop music video, most of them came up with a response of different clothing. So if we decided to make a hip-hop video we would use clothing like shirts and shorts instead of jeans and hoodies.

In a hip-hop video we expect to see women, alcohol, cars and money etc. When we asked our clients they seemed to think the same.

Most of the clients favourite music videos belonged in the RnB genre. Most of them clients were at the age from 15-25, this may show that the RnB genre is now growing on young people today.

From this research we decided, to choose our song we are going to do our video on which is Rizzle Kicks - Down With The Trumpets. This song is a cross between hip-hop and RnB because it includes rapping and singing. Rizzle Kicks use clothing that you wouldn't expect to see in a hip-hop/RnB video, they wear indie style clothing which we though we could use for our video.
